My husband Larry and I of 53 years have been living in Hawaii over 40 years. We moved 8 years ago from Kona side. I am proud of my Hawaiian heritage. My Mother was born and raised in Waipio Valley. I am one of fifteen children and have a large Ohana.

I have always loved to paint, color, draw, and make ART & CRAFTS. I am happiest when I have made art.

We have a macadamia nut farm outside of Pahoa. We were one of many people affected by the 2018 eruption and were evacuated from our house 9 months. We are now back in our beautiful home and live totally off grid. Although many of our trees were damaged. Our 6 acres were not touched by lava.

Our driveway is lined by mature foxtail palms and they survived beautifully. This brings me to the art & craft I have been creating most recently.

The Foxtail palms drop large fronds and the texture is similar to leather. After soaking them, I form them into baskets of different sizes and shapes. When they dry I embellish them with leaves, dyed with other flora and fauna I find on our property. My baskets are totally organic. The being said they are not only artistic but useful as containers of what ever you can imagine. They are very durable and will last many years.

Fond of Fronds,

Lani
